SHILLONG: Secretary to the Union Government and Chairman, Postal Services Board, Padmini Gopinath visited the headquarters of North East Postal Circle at Shillong on Saturday to review, the progress of computerization and IT modernization in the post offices in North East Postal Circle covering the states of Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura
During the visit, she also assessed the preparedness of Post Office Savings Bank for introduction of Core Banking Solutions.
It may be mentioned that the Department of Posts has embarked on an ambitious plan for bringing ‘Any Time Banking Solutions’ in post office savings bank.
As a part of the program, nine major post offices in North East Postal Circle will be getting the ATMs in first phase, to improve the competitiveness of the post offices.
Post Offices will also introduce very advanced computerization of Postal Life Insurance and Rural Postal Life Insurance, seamlessly linking front office customer transactions to back office record maintenance aimed at accelerated response to PLI customer’s need.
Postmaster General PK Swain while addressing the officers from North East Postal Region, emphasized on the timeliness on preparatory works for implementation of the first phase of core banking solutions in order to maintain the market leadership.
As part of the modernization program, Shillong GPO is also proposed to get ATM facility in future.
Padmini Gopinath also unveiled the new exclusive website designed by North East Postal Circle team for its region. This website is hosted in NIC domain with id www. northeastposts. gov.in.
She also dedicated to public, the modernized post office at North East Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) in Shillong.
This project arrow post office with better look and feel will provide additionally instant Money Order (iMO) service through which money can be sent instantly by customers to be collected within minutes from designated post offices anywhere in India.
It may be mentioned that 95 post offices in North East Postal region have this facility.
