 Editor,

Apropos the letter to the editor captioned ‘Irregularities'(ST June 22, 2013)the Khrum Diengiei Higher Secondary School would like to clarify that despite the allegations of irregularities the school has been adjudged the best school in 2012 according to the survey conducted by Ri Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF) in 2012. The Principal of the School is a qualified and permanent member of our staff. The only purpose for starting the school is to provide access to the underprivileged students in and around the neighbouring villages who cannot afford to attend their higher secondary classes away from their homes at distant places. This comes after continuous pressure from parents and the village Dorbar to open Class XI & XII. It may be mentioned that this school could be started due to the voluntary help offered by some faculty of the Union Christian College (UCC) without expecting any pecuniary benefits.

We also like to inform members of the public that the school has sufficient teachers so the question of advertising for posts does not arise.

Yours etc.,

Phlanstarwell Kalah Lynser,

Secretary, Managing Committee,

Khrum Diengiei, Higher Secondary School

Ri Bhoi

Lest we forget.

Editor,

Readers will recall that in 2009 when our State was in the grip of Meningococcal Meningitis, the vaccine to fight this deadly disease was Rs 300 a phial, much beyond the reach of the poor and the down trodden. Every front page of each city daily reported of deaths that swept like a plague. Fortunately Meghalaya was brought under President’s Rule and our Governor then wrote to World Health Organisation(WHO)to provide the vaccines at a subsidised rate. The WHO responded with alacrity. This has saved thousands of lives. We owe a debt of gratitude to our outgoing Governor, Mr RS Mooshahary. May he and his family be abundantly blessed.

Yours etc.,

Wandell Passah,

Nongkrem.

Lawless army

Editor,

The recent misbehaviour by Army personnel on traffic policemen at Assam Bazar, Happy Valley, is highly condemnable. What do they think of themselves? Are they above the law? The real irritant is when you notice an army vehicle parked in the no-parking zone and overtaking in the busy streets of Shillong. Why are they so arrogant? Re they not governed by the same laws of the land? Sadly they have always shown scant respect for civil laws. They proudly claim to be protectors of the country’s sovereignty and integrity but in most cases they seem to lack discipline, moral values and have no respect for traffic rules.

Yours etc.,

E.R.Sangma,
