SHILLONG: The latest directive of the Education department has put those students, who are applying for post-matric scholarship, in a fix.

The latest directive of the Education department has made it mandatory for the students to declare their parents’ income in the form of an affidavit on non-judicial stamp paper.

In the past, students used to submit their parents’ income proof certified either by their local MLA or MDC.

This is for the first time that this kind of procedure is being followed in the State which has created a lot of confusion among the students especially those who hail from the rural areas.

Expressing concern over it, Sohra UDP MLA Tistosstarwell Chyne termed the directive as unjustified. “No prior intimation was given to the students about it,” he said.

“Students now will have to spend unnecessarily between Rs 400 to Rs 500 to get the income affidavit,” Chyne said.

When contacted, Higher and Technical Education department director LR Sangma said that she has to find out the reason for this new system.
