Itanagar: Normal life was affected in Arunachal Pradesh capital today following dawn to dusk bandh called by the capital unit of All Nyishi Youth Association (ANYA) in protest against non-fulfilment of its charter of demands.

The bandh, which began at 5 am in the morning, remained peaceful with no reports of law and order problem from any part of the capital complex, Superintendent of Police Nabum Gungte said. Business establishments, educational institutions central government offices and banks remained closed during the day.

However, government offices remained open with thin attendances. All sort of private and public transport remained off the road while a few state transport buses were seen plying with escorts. The association decided to go ahead with its proposed bandh call today after the talk on their charter of demands with the state government failed to yield any positive results.

The Capital Complex administration had earlier issued order directing the bandh callers to abstain from any act that may affect normal life, liberty and safety or security of common citizens and disrupt peace.

The association has been demanding for early shifting of the Hanuman Mandir located at Ganga Market here to some suitable place, continuation of the eviction drive in the NH-52A, eviction and stern action against illegal government land encroachers in the state capital and shifting of Hume Pipe Factory from the present location.

Meanwhile, to strengthen the law and order machinery and tackle the growing incidence of bandh culture in the capital complex, the Union Home Ministry on Thursday approved one CRPF battalion, numbering 1000 trained personnel for Itanagar, the Capital of Arunachal Pradesh. This was announced by the Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde in New Delhi. (PTI)
