Alcantara set to join Bayern Munich

Madrid: Highly rated Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara, in a snub to Manchester United, is set to join former manager Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich. The English champions seemed to be the destination of choice for the 22-year-old Spaniard, who has been left frustrated after minimal playing time in Barca. However, Alcantara could join Bayern, the European Champions, as early as next Thursday, reports Spanish media. Though, it will not be all plain sailing for the Barca youngster as Bayern already have Tony Kroos and bought Mario Gotze from German rivals Borussia Dortmund in record breaking domestic transfer. Besides, fighting for a place against Kroos and Gotze, Bayern also have Javi Martinez, one of the key members of the team that beat Dortmund in the Champions League final. (IANS)

Real Madrid extends Nacho contract

Madrid: Real Madrid confirmed that defender Nacho Fernandez has agreed to a new four-year contract with the club. The move confirms the future of the 23-year-old former Real Madrid B-team captain as a fixture in the first team squad for the forthcoming season, reports Xinhua. It is a reward for an adaptable player who is able to produce solid performances across the back line but who is probably most comfortable playing on the left side of central defence. Nacho made his first team debut in April 2011 but found chances hard to come by despite making the first team squad on numerous occasions in the second half of the current campaign. (IANS)
