SHILLONG: A local court on Saturday remanded RBYF Nongpoh unit general secretary, Yougesh Nongrum, who was arrested by Ri Bhoi police on Friday night for allegedly hurling a petrol bomb on a truck, to a 10-day police custody.

Ri Bhoi Superintendent of Police CVS Reddy said that police would continue acting against RBYF leaders on basis of the cases registered against them at different police stations of the district.

Interestingly, according to Reddy, Nongrum is claiming to be a village defense party (VDP) member who was out on the highway to keep a tab on trouble mongers.

Meanwhile, the bails of 18 Ri Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF) members who had trespassed into a government office (MUDA) have been cancelled following their failure to appear before the Investigation Officer.

A series of stray incidents were reported from across the Ri Bhoi district during the night road blockade called by the RBYF on July 11 and 12 in protest against the State Government’s refusal to reinstate two causal employees of MUDA.
