SHILLONG: Even as the State is still recovering from the shock of the Ampati twin rape case, two more minor girls were allegedly raped by three men in East Jaintia Hills on late Saturday evening.

According to police on Tuesday, the perpetrators identified as Kol Bareh, Ashok Bareh and Wohliang Syrti raped the minor girls (13 and 14 years of age respectively) at Jalaphet, Brisumer in East jaintia Hills.

The three, who are still at large, were known to the victims and hail from the same village. “The perpetrators had invited the girls for a drive and on reaching a quiet place committed the heinous crime,” a senior police official said.

After committing the crime, the three threatened the girls against disclosing the incident. However, on reaching home, the two reported the matter to their parents who then lodged a complaint with police.

It may be mentioned that two minor sisters were raped in custody by the officer in-charge of Ampati PS earlier in the year.

In another rape case, one Salanmiki alias Mi Phawa (23) along with his accomplices kidnapped a woman from Salaroh, Jowai in West Jaintia Hills on July 12. The miscreants then drove to Jowai by pass where they raped the victim.

The victim reported the matter to police on Monday following which Phawa and two of his accomplices, Sakwit Phawa and Teilang Suchiang, all hailing from Salini Mihmyntdu were arrested.

“A case has been registered against the arrested persons,” a senior police official said.

Police, however, stated that there are complications in the case as the main accused, Phawa, is the lover of the victim. “We are still investigating into the matter,” a police source said.
