RBYF calls off agitation

 SHILLONG/NONGPOH: The Ri Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF), which has been on the war path seeking reinstatement of two casual employees of MUDA, has called off its ongoing agitation after the State agreed to meet its demands.

The decision was taken in a meeting held at the office chamber of the chief adviser to the State Government DD Lapang in the State Secretariat on Thursday. The meeting was attended by Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, Umsning MLA and Parliamentary Secretary Dr C Lyngdoh, MUDA officials and RBYF leaders.

The State Government agreed to reinstate the two sacked employees in MUDA’s Byrnihat office and to withdraw the FIR lodged by the MUDA authorities against the RBYF leaders.

In response, the RBYF called off its aggitational programme.

Informing this to The Shillong Times, RBYF Secretary L.K Sawkmie said the government agreed to meet its demand for reinstatement the two casual labourers– Hundalin Warjri and Subita Lapang, whose services were terminated recently.

“As a goodwill gesture the organization decided to call off its aggitational programme”, Sawkmie said.

Meanwhile, Urban Affairs Minister said, “We are making arrangements to ensure that the livelihood of the two employees is not affected.” The Minister said that the MUDA authorities would withdraw the FIR filed against RBYF leaders Meanwhile, 76 percent attendance was recorded on the first day of the two-day office picketing on Thursday.
