Itanagar: Nine persons, including four army personnel, were arrested at the Banderdewa check-gate here for allegedly looting Rs 6 lakh from a person.

A man, Tana Karan, of Lower Neepco colony was promised Rs 30 lakh in fake currency for Rs 6 lakh by five persons from Assam who asked him to meet them at a pre-arranged spot with the money Thursday night, SP (Itanagar) Nabam Gungte said on Friday.

When Karan turned up to make the deal, the five men called up four armed army personnel who then together snatched away the Rs 6 lakh at gun-point and fled away in a car, Gungte said.

The nine were intercepted and arrested at the Banderdewa check-gate after Karan informed the Doimukh police which alerted the Banderdewa police, he said.

Three AK 47 assault rifles, 6 magazines, 180 rounds of ammunition,10 mobile handsets, two bottles of a liquid substance and 718 pieces of notepaper used for printing fake currency were seized, the SP said. Their car, an unregistered one, was impounded, he said.

A case under the Arms Act was registered against them at the Doimukh police station, he added. (PTI)
