SHILLONG: Technologies adopted by the various Government departments have not yielded any positive result towards the growth and development of the State, said Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma.

“The ineffective technologies adopted by the Government departments have in fact brought about a huge loss to the State exchequer,” Dr Sangma said while inaugurating the 13th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Meghalaya Engineering Service Association on the theme ‘Technocrats-Drivers of Change’ in city on Saturday.

The Chief Minister, however, asserted that time had come to bring in synergy in the approach towards adopting new technologies.

“What is important is to blend the new innovations and ideas to ensure that technology which is being adopted bring positive result. It would also help bringing in a positive approach and good governance,” he said.

He said the Government should be receptive to ideas and creativities influenced by the modern technology in order to bring in much-needed change particularly in the field of infrastructure development.

Informing that the government has adopted the policy of using technology and innovations in dealing with all developmental issues, Dr Sangma said, “We need to come out of the box and live in reality.”

Expressing concern over recent calamity in Uttarakhand, Dr Sangma said the State should remain well prepared to meet any kind of disaster that may affect the people of the State particularly in terms of the quality of construction and structural standards.

PWD Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar and Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh also spoke on the occasion.
