SHILLONG: The Army recruitment rally has received an overwhelming response from the local youth from across the State.
The first day of the recruitment rally on Saturday, which is being organised at the JN Stadium, saw an attendance of more than 2000 plus local youths who are aspiring to join the army. The recruitment rally continues till July 28.
The army authorities have attributed this positive response among the local youth to this recruitment rally to the constructive engagement between Headquarters Recruiting Zone (NE States) and State Civil Administration especially the office of East Khasi Hill district.

General Panwar witnessed the recruitment rally to motivate the youth who wants to join the Indian Army.
Meanwhile, Officiating Deputy Director General Recruiting (NE States) Colonel Tarun Kumar informed that this open recruitment rally is being held in the State after a gap of five years.
“This recruitment rally unfolds a golden opportunity to the youth of Meghalaya for a bright career in the Indian Army,” Kumar said during the rally.
He however informed that this recruitment rally is primarily for the youth of Meghalaya and three districts of Assam adding that the first day of the rally is for candidates from Meghalaya comprising of four districts namely East Khasi Hills, South West Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills and Ri-Bhoi.
“The recruitment rally for the candidates from other districts from the State would be held on Sunday,” Kumar informed.
Meanwhile, Defence PRO Group Amit Mahajan said that all possible steps would be taken to ensure that the recruitment in the Indian Army is through an open, fair and transparent system.
“Recruitment has been completely computerized with extensive use of proprietary software, biometric systems and optical mark readers. No one can influence the recruitment process. Candidates are advised not to fall prey to touts who dupe unsuspecting candidates. Infact, candidates should rely on their own ability, competence and education to make the grade,” Mahajan added.
