 NONGSTOIN: In order to eliminate the practice of open defecation, the Office of the Block Development Officer, C&RD Block Mawkyrwat organized a two-day awareness programme on Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan Total Sanitation Campaign on Friday and Saturday at Multipurpose Hall, Mawkyrwat.

A large number of Myntris including Chairmen and Secretaries of Village Water and Sanitation Committee, Anganwadi workers and school teachers, from 52 villages of South West Khasi Hills District participated in the campaign.

Speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural function, the Deputy Commissioner, South West Khasi Hills District, A Mawlong IAS laid stress on the need for hygiene and cleanliness in the surrounding for better health and quality of life for the people in rural areas.

The awareness programme held, encompassed various topics which included, a lecture on Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan, Total Sanitation Campaign by the Block Development Office, Mawkyrwat.

A presentation about Nirmal Gram Puraskar (NGP) an award based incentive scheme, the general cleanliness, construction of toilets in villages, in Schools, in Anganwadi Centres and Waste Management was also given..
