SHILLONG: St Anthony’s School Higer Secondary School, Shillong, won the 2013 edition of the Keventer Cup 2013 (an inter-school football tournament), organised by the Debanjan Sen Foundation.

The final was played at the Heritage School campus in Kolkata on July 20, where St Anthony’s defeated St Lawrence School, Kolkata, 2-0.

This year’s Keventer Cup was played amongst 32 school football teams, which included the top 28 English medium schools in Kolkata plus a team each from Sikkim and Shillong from July 1-20.

The winners from the North East won through goals from Raymond Kharkongor and Andy Mawthoh.

St Anthony’s dominated proceedings from start to finish, but St Lawrence did create a few chances for themselves, but without success.

This is the first time that a team from outside West Bengal has won the Keventer Cup.

The St Anthony’s boys played well through the tournament and came through without conceding a single goal.

In the pre-quarterfinal, they defeated St Xavier’s, Kolkata, by four goals to nil, increasing their margin of victory in the quarterfinal when they beat The Heritage School, Kolkata, 5-0.

In the last-four, St Anthony’s went up against St Thomas, Ganganagar, and won 4-0, which set up the final against St Lawrence.

The victorious team returned to Shillong on Monday and were felicitated at their school campus on Tuesday.
