SHILLONG: The High Level Scrutiny Committee (HLSC), probing the alleged irregularities in appointment of assistant teachers in the Government-run Lower Primary Schools is likely to submit its report on Monday.

Giving this indication, sources on Sunday said the committee was likely to submit its report to Deputy Chief Minister (in-charge Education) Prof Roytre C Laloo.

The HLSC chairman EP Kharbhih, however, was not available to confirm the news as repeated attempts to contact him over phone proved futile.

Earlier on May, the High Court had given the committee an extension of two months to complete the probe.

The State Government had sought an extension of six months for the HLSC to complete the task saying that the scoresheets and other documents were not provided.

After the CBI had unearthed irregularities, the Government had sought to constitute the HLSC to scrutinize the matter further.

Responding to a petition filed by the Government, the Court, in August last year, had asked the Education department to constitute a Committee to complete its findings with a deadline of six months to look into the alleged tampering of mark sheets.

Though the HLSC was constituted in September, the Committee claimed that it did not get the necessary papers to proceed with the scrutiny.

This ultimately led to undue delay of almost nine months for the HLSC to finish the probe.
