SHILLONG: Police on Saturday last recovered the body of an unidentified female from Byrnihat, Ri Bhoi district.

Ri Bhoi Superintendent of Police CVS Reddy on Monday informed that the body appeared to be that of a non tribal and her age ranged from 35 years to 45 years.

Police have already started their investigation into the matter to nab the culprits, he added.

“We suspect that the girl was murdered in Assam and later the body was dumped here,” Reddy said, while adding that the police have already sent the details of the body to Assam and West Bengal.

Meanwhile, the body has been sent to Nongpoh Civil Hospital for post mortem examination.

It may be reminded that a few months back, police had recovered the body of a girl from a jungle near Byrnihat. The victim had been sexually assaulted before being murdered.

Reacting to a query on the previous case, the Superintendent of Police said that police were awaiting evidence in the case which has been referred to the forensic laboratory.
