SHILLONG: Despite putting up a decent performance, Lajong were held to a goalless draw against the season’s latest entry Imson in their First Division tie on Tuesday.

In fact, Imson could have gone on to win the match if not for a missed penalty by Sachin Khongsit in the 79th minute.

On the other hand, Lajong were unable to capitalise on a number of chances thanks to some decent goalkeeping by Imson’s custodian Wanlam Shadap.

Making the best use of both wings, Lajong’s trademark for the day was sending in numerous crosses that nearly saw conversions on several occasions.

However, Wanlam Shadap kept himself busy and denied the Reds a goal.

The main highlight of the match was the 79th minute penalty offered to Imson.

Shot-taker Sachin Khongsit’s feeble attempt on goal was foiled after a diving save to the right by Lajong’s keeper Nitin Meel.

The draw places Lajong at joint top spot with their next match opponents Shillong United with 10 points.

Second Division

Earlier, Laitumkhrah pounded Madan SS&CC 4-1 in a Second Division match thanks to Aguri Christian’s four goal assault that began from the 28th minute onwards.

Christian’s goals came in the 28th, 31st, 65th and 74th minutes to ensure an easy win for his side.

Interestingly, Madan drew first blood, scoring a goal in the 15th minute although they were unable to hang on to their lead.
