EVMs in dist council polls

 SHILLONG: Despite opposition from several quarters including political parties, the State Government has decided to use EVMs in District Council elections due in early part of next year.

“We are not going to revert back to the old ballot system demanded by a certain political parties. We have used EVMs in the last two elections. In the upcoming elections too the EVMs would be used,” District Council Affairs Minister HDR Lyngdoh said here on Thursday.

Rs 2 crore has been earmarked for procurement of EVMs, he said adding “We are expecting to receive the delivery of the newly procured EVMs in October.”
