SHILLONG: The Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force (ITBPF) on Friday felicitated Wansuk Myrthong, the first lady to scale the highest peak (Mt Everest) this May.
30-year-old Myrthong, who became the first woman to achieve this feat, is an armed women police constable of the first Meghalaya police battalion.
Speaking on the occasion, ITBP IG North East frontier, RK Saini lauded the efforts of Myrthong and said that it is a matter of great pride for the state.
He also mentioned that ITBP will provide help and guidance to the interested youths in the field of mountaineering from the NE region.
Myrthong had undergone Basic Mountaineering Course at Mountaineering and Skiing Institute, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, in Auli, Uttarkhand and secured impressive grades.
Myrthong’s other participations include, 10th North East Zone Sports Climbing Committee held at Kangla Rock Wall at Minuthong, Manipur and was adjudged Best Senior Climber in the Women’s open Category bagging two gold medals, and one silver.
