SHILLONG: The female security guards of Shillong Golf Club have alleged that former Arunachal Pradesh minister and convener of the disciplinary committee of the Shillong Club Limited, L Wanglet abused them and eventually had them terminated from service.

In their complaint addressed to president of the Shillong Golf Association AL Hek , the women security staff alleged that Wanglet regularly used foul language against them and treated them “like slaves”.

“He claimed to be the security in-charge of the golf course and threatened to relieve us of our services,” the 12 lady security guards who were entrusted with the task of maintaining the cleanliness and beauty of the golf course said.

Wanglet has also been accused of using foul language against the pedestrians walking along the golf course.

“It is unbecoming of a member of the club to indulge in such unruly behaviour. It is clear that Wanglet is not aware of our tribal traditions and culture particularly in giving respect to the ladies. Such behaviour is not at all acceptable to our tribal society,” said Hek, who is also the Minister of Information and Public relations.

These women security guards of the Unique Ex-servicemen security agency under the directorship of R Marak have been doing their rounds for more than a year, keeping a close watch on kids playing games on the field, making traffic arrangements in the early morning hours during golf practice besides reminding people of their civic sense and others.
