SHILLONG: Radahana Jyrwa, president, Khun Kynthei U Hynniewtrep Association (KKHA) has appealed that issues like rape of minors and crime against women should be dealt with a firm hand by the police so that such ugly incidents do not recur in the society.
“Police should take strong legal action and the perpetrators of such heinous crimes should not be granted bail under any circumstances,” she said while recalling the case of the six-year-old child who was raped by one Smatkam Mawlong in Mawsynram on July 22. Jyrwa, who has earned accolades from the Snaitang Clan, Mawsain for her constructive role as a social worker and her tireless efforts towards the benefit of the society in a signed note by thirty clan members, has further appealed to the police that Mawlong who was arrested on the very next day by the police should be strongly dealt with so that none dares to repeat such crimes in future.
“Why are they targeting the minors? The police should apply strict law and not let these culprits lose,” she said.
The incident took place on the fateful day on the child, a student of KG, in a forest at Kenbah Malai. According to the report of the Medical & Health Officer, Mawsynram, CHC dated July 22 shared by Jyrwa, the incident took place when the victim along with her cousin and mother went to the riverside for washing clothes and taking bath.
