JOWAI: The East Jaintia Hills district administration has released Rs 1.5 lakh to each of the next of kin of the victims of electrocution at Khliehriat as ex-gratia relief.

According to an official release, the fund was released as per the revised list of items and norms of assistance from State Disaster Respond Fund (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) for the period of 2010-2015.

It may be mentioned here that seven members from two families, mostly students, were electrocuted in Khliehriat West village in East Jaintia Hills District on June 26.

Earlier, NGOs had opposed the move of the government to pay only Rs 1 lakh as an ex-gratia.
