SHILLONG: The Shillong Press Club (SPC) has taken strong exception to the threat issued by one Agal B Sangma who claims to run the self styled ‘Government of Garoland’.

In a press statement issued in Garo language to one of the media houses on Friday, Agal Sangma stated that if the police do not arrest rape accused cop Nurul Islam by August 15, he “will shoot the policemen who are killing innocent people.” He also threatened that if the release is not published, appropriate action would be taken against the press.

Condemning the incident the SPC made it clear that the media fraternity of Meghalaya will not be cowed down by such antics aimed at gaining personal mileage.

The SPC also urged the government to take note of the incident and ensure that the perpetrator is apprehended and punished as per law.
