SHILLONG: The 66th Independence Day and 141st Birth Anniversary of Sri Aurobindo was celebrated in advance by The Mother’s School and Mother’s Performing Art School at the city based Sri Aurobindo Institute of Indian Culture (SAIIC) auditorium on Saturday evening. The function was attended by PP Shrivastava, Member, North Eastern Council; AK Mathur, Director, North Eastern Police Academy; Dr BB Dutta, Chairman, SAIIC; Dr BDR Tiwari, Commissioner and Secretary besides distinguished guests and general public.
“The Essence of Indian Culture as shown by Aurobindo and Mother and others is basically pursuit of bliss. It is not mere joy and happiness because if we only joy only we are bound to get sorrow but bliss is something which is the fundamental state of happiness, which these spiritualists have shown,” said Shrivastava, member, NEC.
He added that every country had its own way of proceeding to this destination but India had a distinguished way right from the ancient times to reach this destination with an understanding. “They have described it in a language we can understand,” he said. Recalling Aurobindo, Shrivastava further said that every human soul seeks harmony of body, mind and spirit, that is, the physical mental and spiritual.
A K Mathur, Director, North Eastern Police Academy, said that one was drifting away from the Indian Culture and the syllabus of educational institutions that preached our rich culture has been removed.
The function opened with an opening spiritual mantra -Rishi Vandana followed by a speech by Anita Bhattacharjee, Principal, Mother’s School who gave a glimpse into the life of Sri Aurobindo and Divine Mother, their education system, spiritual life, performing art among others. A prayer song by the junior group and a patriotic song by the senior group of Mother’s Music School were presented.
