SHILLONG: A group of aggrieved candidates, backed by the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF), have threatened to resort to democratic means of agitation if the Central Recruitment Board does not rectify the entire process of the ongoing recruitment of the armed branch and unarmed branch of the Meghalaya Police.

The recruitment procedure was embroiled in a controversy after eligible candidates were denied a chance to appear for the personal interview despite having cleared the written test on the basis of the argument that the total number of candidates invited for the personal interview was only 1.5 times the number of vacancies as per the State Reservation Policy.

In a letter shot off to BL Buam, Chairman of the Central Recruitment Board, on Monday, the aggrieved candidates along with HNYF publicity secretary Donbok Dkhar questioned the manner in which non-performing candidates in the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) were permitted to sit for the written test.

The candidates also alleged that around 5500 candidates qualified in the test but only a few hundred were asked to appear for the personal interview.

Earlier in the day, a group of the aggrieved candidates along with the HNYF publicity secretary called on Home Minister Roshan Warjri in her office chamber and sought her intervention into the matter.

It has been learnt that the Home Minister has assured the candidates that she would take up the matter with the concerned authorities.
