TURA: A large consignment of the intoxicant cough syrup Codex worth over sixty five thousand rupees that was being smuggled out to Mankachar in Assam through Phulbari was intercepted by West Garo Hills police and seized on Monday night.

Phulbari police intercepted a brand new auto rickshaw that was filled with thirteen cartoons of the restricted medicine at Udipara village near Gomaijhora as it was being transported towards Mankachar town.

It was found that the consignment did not have the required documents for transportation in bulk.

The pharmacist was taken into custody while the medical representative from Phulbari who had arranged the consignment has fled. It was reportedly brought from Hat Singimari town.

The highly intoxicant cought syrups such as Codex and Phensedyl are banned from over the counter sale in medical stores unless there is a doctor’s prescription.
