Agartala: Tripura government is accused of not complying with Lokayukta (anti-corruption authority) order issued against the corrupt public servants rather allegedly abetting the accused officials to move the High Court.
The latest report of state Law department said in past one and half years, the Lokayukta had accused three public servants of corrupt practices in discharging their duties and recommended for their punishment but nothing was done.
The Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF), Tripura Sanatan Talukadar and his sub-ordinate Chief Conservator of Forest Debashis Chakraborty were found guilty in preliminary investigation on corrupt practices labelled by a leading NGO of the state.
“Both the officers had unnecessarily harassed us for three years in a malafide intention for paying dues of Rs 2 lach, as payment of conducting a research work of socio-economic and cultural aspects of tribal Jhumia families,” the NGO complained to Lokayukta last year.
In the preliminary investigation, Lokayukta Retd Justice P K Sarkar summoned the officers and sought clarification on the allegation but they did not appear before the Lokayukta several times and finally appointed a lawyer from public exchequer who also failed to counter the allegation.
After long hearing, the Lokayukta had directed PCCF to pay the dues to the NGO latest by mid-July and recommended Chief Secretary Dr S K Panda to take administrative action against both the erring officers but neither they paid the dues nor the government took any action against the accused.
Similarly, earlier the Lokayukta had accused two engineers of Rural development Departments of financial corruption and both the cases in concurrence of the state Law department had gone to High Court which later passed a stay order. (UNI)
