SHILLONG: There is intense pressure on UDP leader Paul Lyngdoh to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls to take on the Congress, a UDP source said on Friday.

According to the source, UDP will seek the support of likeminded parties and individuals beyond the conglomeration of the Meghalaya People’s Forum which consists of UDP, NPP, GNC and independents.

The source added that UDP will be finalizing the name of the party candidate soon and Paul Lyngdoh is considered as the front runner.

The plan of the UDP will be to bank on the support of some Congress legislators and party men, who are opposed to the candidature of sitting MP Vincent Pala.

There is already division within the State Congress over support to Pala, who is facing allegations of going against the official candidates of the Congress in the Assembly election held in February.
