Remote villagers celebrate I-Day

 JOWAI: Muskut – one of the most neglected villages in West Jaintia Hills District celebrated Independence Day on Thursday.

Independence Day was also celebrated in Amlarem, Waiajer village and Shangpung.

In Jowai, the 67th Independence Day was celebrated at Jrisalein Playground, Jowai in a very grand manner in the presence of a mammoth gathering. Meghalaya PWD Minister, Sniawbhalang Dhar unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya salute of 30 contingents comprising of 21 Schools, 2 College , State Police, Home Guard, NCC and Guides.

Addressing the gathering on this 67th anniversary of Independence, S Dhar said that the Government needed support and cooperation from all citizens with responsibility and dedication for the development of the State.

The other highlights of the day included rendition of patriotic songs, dances, short plays, display of fire balloons and distribution of fruits, sweets and food package to the patients and inmates at KJP Assembly Hospital, Jowai Civil Hospital, District Jail, St. Mary Mazzerello’s Tome Memorial Orphanage, Jowai sponsored by social organisations and NGO’s.
