NONGSTOIN: The Federation of Khasi Jaintia & Garo People, Mairang Circle, FKJGP Umpdem area unit and headman of Umpdem and adjoining villagers inspected the Umpdem Health Sub-centre on August 15.

During their inspection they noticed that the Health Sub-centre was in an abandoned stage and has infact turned into a cattle shed.

Headman of Umpdem, Hoping Kharkongor said that the building was completed in 1992 but even after 21 years it is yet to be inaugurated.

He added that the deserted building was also being mis utilized by some people for various reasons.

All the inspecting parties urged the Government through the Health Department to take an immediate step to inaugurate the Health Sub Centre. They urged that Umpdem area was devoid of a Health Sub Centre or a PHC.

“The Inauguration of the Health Sub Centre will be a blessing for the thousands of people of the area. However the sub-centre will be insufficient to cater to the need of the vast population and hence the Government should also upgrade the sub centre to a PHC”, L Mawlong, FKJGP Mairang vice president said.
