SHILLONG: Deputy Chief Minister in-charge law, Rowell Lyngdoh, while ruling out framing of any new anti-superstition law, has directed police to conduct a thorough investigation to ascertain the actual reasons which led to violence at Smit.
Stating that there were enough laws to prevent occurrence of such incidents, Lyngdoh on Saturday said that there was a need to initiate massive awareness programmes both by the authorities and also by people at large to end this menace.
According to Lyngdoh, the law has to be stringent so that the arrested people could be taken to the task. Moreover, those who incite mob fury and violence should also be severely dealt with, he said.
Earlier, the Meghalaya People’s Human Rights Council had asked the Government to frame an anti-superstition law to prevent recurring cases of superstition.
