Vivekananda’s birth anniv to be observed

 SHILLONG: St. Anthony’s College will observe the sesquicentennial birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda here on September 10-11.

The Departments of Philosophy and History of the college will jointly commemorate the occasion with a two-day National Conference on Swami Vivekananda’s Exposition of Practical Vedanta.

The two dates were selected so as to coincide with the 120th anniversary of Swamiji’s Chicago address at the World Parliament of Religions in 1893.

In this regard, the college is inviting papers for presentation in the conference on topics related to Swamiji’s philosophy and preaching. The topic of the papers include – a way of life, world peace and universal brotherhood, philosophy of education, ethical management practices, sustainable economic development, spiritual upliftment, women empowerment, youth empowerment and leadership, interpretation of religion, national integration and ways of regeneration.

The purpose of the camp is to discus and understands the practical applicability of the philosophy of Practical Vedanta coined by Swamiji.

Since this philosophy emphasizes on the awareness of the one underlying principle behind every existential phenomena, it opens up new avenues for holistic education by promoting love and unity in the place of apathy and alienation, attempting to create a stable and peaceful society.
