Itanagar: Lady Everesters’ duo from Arunachal Pradesh – Anshu Jamsenpa and Tine Mena – once again made their state proud by successfully scaling the Bara Shigri Glacier, the second longest glacier in the world, recently .

The event was Climbathon 2013, hosted by Indian Mountaineering Foundation. The ace mountaineers’ duo just returned to the state after successful completion of Climbathon 2013 in Bara Shigri glacier region in Himachal Pradesh, official sources said here on Sunday.

While Anshu summited Shigri Parvat at the height of 21,9,29 ft on August 4 at 11 am, Tine summited Kullu Pumori (21,6,25 ft) at 10 am in the Bara Shigri glacier.

The Climbathon 2013 was flagged off on July 20 last from Atal Bihari Vajpai Mountaineering Institute Manali by Col H S Chauhan, president of Indian Mountaineering Foundation. It ended with the successful summit of total five peaks including Khangsering (20,5,52 ft) and two virgin peaks of 20,7,57 ft and 20,5,85 ft respectively.

The highlight of the expedition was that it was done in alpine style which is a self contained and self sustained climbing expedition involving carrying all of one’s food, tents, climbing equipments, fixing ropes and non usage of sherpas and porters.

During the last stretch of the summit attempt, Anshu and Tine had to climb the snow clad peak continuously for over 17 hours nonstop, sources said.

“Our lady mountaineers have proved their mettle as several other top Indian mountaineers including four Everesters had to abandon their alpine expedition halfway due to health reasons and over exhaustion,” stated Tsering Wange, president of Arunachal Mountaineering and Adventure Sports Association.

Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs Ninong Ering and Lok Sabha member from the state Takam Sanjoy have congratulated the summiteers. (PTI)
