JOWAI: Activists of Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU) on Tuesday inspected the ongoing work for shifting of the Jowai Civil Hospital at Ialong.

The construction of the new building was initiated during the tenure of former Chief Minister late FA Khonglam and foundation stone was laid during the tenure of then Chief Minister DD Lapang and health Minister Sayeedullah Nongrum. The construction cost was estimated at Rs. 5.34 crore and began in 2006-07.

Meanwhile, the JSU also demanded immediate dismantling of the old building as soon as the shifting process is over so that a new building could be constructed to house a children and women hospital.
