WIFS programme launched in WJH

 JOWAI: Deputy Chief Minister R C Laloo on Tuesday launched the Weekly Iron-Folic Acid Supplementation (WIFS) programme in West Jaintia Hills at the District Library Auditorium here on Monday.

The programme is being implemented jointly by the departments of Health, Education and Social Welfare.

Speaking on the occasion Prof. Laloo said WIFS is crucial for adolescents as Iron deficiency Anemia is a widespread health problem. He also encouraged the students to take the Iron-Folic Acid tablets whenever it is provided to them and urged the trained teachers to educate the students on the benefits of taking the tablets.

Dr. E.Challam, District Maternal & Child Health Officer, Jowai informed that the Iron-Folic Acid tablets will be distributed on all Mondays at school and Anganwadi centres. “In addition to Iron Folic Acid tablets, Albendazole tablets for de-worming will also be given twice a year to the same target group,” she said.
