SHILLONG: The State Government has failed to institute a magisterial inquiry into Tura jail break incident involving GNLA cadre Kennedy T Sangma.

A magisterial inquiry would have thrown more light on how the jailbreak was accomplished.

Other than taking action against three warders, the probe by the department did not go into the details on how the seven undertrial prisoners including the hardcore GNLA commander, who was under MPDA, got access to instruments to cut the iron bars of the Ward No III of the jail to come out.

The magisterial probe would have brought to light the angle of any collusion on the part of the jail staff with the undertrial prisoners lodged in the jail.

Probes related to the infamous Shillong jail break of May 31, 2009 had revealed that the jail staff and the undertrials were in collusion and liquor, money, cell phones and weapons were smuggled into the jail resulting in the escape of hardcore criminal Fullmoon Dhar and his gang.
