SHILLONG: Late goals by Bikram Adakhari and Bidyasagar Singh saw Boys Sports Company clinch a thrilling 3-1 win over Smit in a First Division football match at the JN Sports Complex on Wednesday.

With this win, Boys Sports’ chances of making it to the Shillong Premier League have received a boost as even a draw against Imson in their last match will see them through along with Shillong Lajong.

Boys Sports grabbed a half time lead after a 37th minute conversion gave Tshring Bhutia a goal.

However, the mounting pressure did not appear to bother Smit as Moonshine Dkhar provided the equaliser in the 68th minute.

Although both sides came close to scoring on a number of occasions towards the latter stages of the game, there was lack of substantial penetration.

But Bikram’s 87th minute header put Boys Sports ahead before Bidyasagar nimbly placed the ball past keeper Khrawbhalang into the net to dent Smit’s hopes of earning three crucial points and a chance to gain second spot in the table.

Thursday’s First Division match will be played between Umphrup and Laitlyngkot at the JN Stadium at 4pm.

Meanwhile, Ryntih will go up against Nongthymmai at 1pm at the JN Sports Complex in a Second Division match followed by another game between Laban and Laitumkhrah at Ground III, Polo Grounds at 4pm.
