1st Div football: Nongkrem hold Shillong United

SHILLONG: Shillong United were held to a 2-2 draw by Nongkrem in their last league match of the First Division under wet conditions at the JN Sports Complex here on Friday.

Both teams registered a strong start with Nongkrem’s Lining Kynter drawing first blood for his side as early as the 3rd minute. However, barely two minutes later Wansan Wahlang scored the equalizer for Shillong United. By the 10th minute, it was Shillong United’s turn to go into the lead through a Eijingmut Lyngdoh shot which went past the rival custodian. Leading 2-1 at halftime, Shillong United seemed the better side.

However, crossing over, a late a late Bankyrshan Mawthoh (86th minute) secured a well-fought draw for Nongkrem.

Assam Regimental thrash Jongksha

Meanwhile, Assam Regimental Centre kick-started its Third Division campaign on a dominating note on Friday, thrashing Jongksha 9-0 in a completely a one-sided affair. For Assam Regimental Centre, the Ajit Kumar Singh (4), Warkham ANol (30, 48), Lalmalsawma (33), Robert Meitei (61), Bobbychand Singh (62,66), Roshendro Singh (63), and Francis Zonuntlanga (67) were the scorers.

Nongmynsong outplay CAC

In another Third Division match, Nongmynsong outplayed CAC 3-1. Despite conceding a 15th minute lead to CAC, Nongmynsong came back strongly to finish 3-1.

For Nongmynsong, the equaliser came in the 36th minute when Thomas Thabah fired a shot into the nets. Kordor Marthong converted a chance five minutes later before Elmingstar Diengdoh finished it off with a 61st minute goal. Tyngshainsngur Marboh was the lone scorer for CAC.
