NONGSTOIN: The indefinite hunger strike by the All West Khasi Hills DSC Passed Candidates 2010 reached its fifth day on Friday at Nongstoin. Marking the end of the fifth day, the Deputy Commissioner West Khasi Hills, S Kharlyngdoh invited the agitators for talks to his chamber.

During the talks, the DC apprised the agitators that their demands were taken care of and guaranteed that their demands would be fulfilled on August 28.

He also asked them to call off the hunger strike, as at the moment, in the absence of the Chief Minister in the State they could not announce anything. With this verbal assurance, the agitators left the DC’s chamber and asked him to give them some time to discuss about it.

After the discussion amongst the agitators, they told the DC that they would only end their fast, when their demands were fulfilled. They said that they would continue their fast in their usual peaceful democratic manner until their demands were fulfilled.

Meanwhile, the agitators also announced that henceforth, none of the agitators would be admitted to the hospital. They added that if any of the agitators health worsened, the doctors willing to treat them should set up a mobile unit at the venue of the hunger strike and cater to the health of the agitators.

On Thursday night, four of the agitators were admitted to the hospital. However, they returned to the hunger strike venue and continued their agitation. The health of the agitators can be seen worsening by the day.

Meanwhile, the 10 hours road blockade by the four NGOs- HANM, WYWC, HPSO and WPM kicked off again at 7PMthroughout West Khasi Hills. Familiarized by the consequences of a night road blockade, all vehicles stayed off the road well before7 PM. However, security within Nongstoin had been beefed up.
