SHILLONG: Governor Dr KK Paul has stressed on the need to pursue the science-based curriculum not only through examinations but by developing a sense of curiosity and channelizing theory and research.
“A scientific mind can always be put into use in various fields of work be it medicine, scientific research or defense,” Dr Paul said adding that even the Constitution of India has laid special emphasis on the need to develop scientific disposition.
Dr Paul was addressing the gathering on a two-day national seminar on ‘Commemoration of the Centenary Year of Bohr’s Atomic Theory’ organised by the Physics department of Lady Keane’s College in collaboration with the department of Physics, NEHU in the college seminar hall here on Friday.
While elaborating on the achievements and contributions of a Danish physicist Neils Henrik David Bohr to science, Dr Paul said Bohr gave the world a clear picture of atomic structure and quantum mechanics for which he received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1922.
At the same time, the Governor also mentioned that even Indian scientists were not far behind when it comes to contributing to the development of science in the global scenario. Referring to Indian scientist CV Raman, Dr Paul said “His contribution and achievement in the field of science is a landmark for India because at that time, India was yet to attain independence and had limited resources.”
“In our day to day life, we need to organise ourselves as well as develop originality, rational thinking and scientific approach thereby making the mind analytical,” he added.
Meanwhile, NEHU Vice Chancellor Prof P Shukla deliberated on the life, contribution and achievement of Bohr in the field of science.
