SHILLONG: Logic defies the suicide theory put forward by police pertaining to the custodial death of two thieves — Kitbok Kasar (24) and Daphahsalanmi Rupon (26).

That the duo committed suicide by hanging on a small gate inside Jowai police lock up on Thursday, despite the presence of policemen, as claimed by police, has raised a few eyebrows. That the two thieves hung themselves together without any stools or tables to climb up in order to tie the ropes is also a mystery.

With allegations of torture of the two thieves resulting in their death doing the rounds, an independent probe seems to be the only way to bring the truth to fore.

Meanwhile, the Civil Society Women’s Organization (CSWO), president, Agnes Kharshiing, has registered a complaint with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in this regard.
