Landslides continue to cut-off villages in Nagaland

Kohima: Oting and Longlem villages under Tizit Assembly Constituency in Mon district of Nagaland remained cut-off from the rest of the district due to heavy mudslide August 16.

According to sources on Wednesday, the mudslide covered about 60 to 70 meter stretch of road near Longlem village. It has been reported that the residents of both the villages were facing shortage of essential commodities for more than 10 days.

It may be mentioned that a JCB had reached the major mudslide site on August 20 to clear the road. However, according to a villager, the JCB which had gone for refueling on August 22, never returned.

Meanwhile, the General public of Tobu sub-division in the Mon district is facing unfold hardships due to blockage of TMN- GREF (BRO) road by huge landslide at various places in Keymeang Nalla and 71 GREF Camp, which is the only life line for the people of this area. A large portion of roads under TMN-GREF road under 100 RCC has been washed away by the landslide.

As per the spot verification report from Adhoc Town Committee lead by K C Moba, former Vice-Chairman, ATCM Tobu, landslide occurred at various places measuring to 150 meters, 80 meters and 70 meters at different spot, it washed away all roads and at three location concrete culvert was badly damaged.

The landslide also damaged one ha of Holock plantation, paddy fields, fishery pond, two khedi hut and one house worth lakh of rupees.

M Wanmai Konyak, CSC Tobu Block in a press release said due to this blockage, the general public, government staff and officers under Tobu sub-division were facing lack of essential commodities in the market.

Moreover, electricity supply is totally cut-off due to heavy landslide at Telangsao hydro mini project, leaving the entire sub-division in darkness.

The landslide washed away 40 meters of concrete water channel at one place and 10 meters at another place. Due to this problem, school students could not go for their classes and the officers could not do their office work.

Therefore, the Government is urged to look into this matter at the earliest for the welfare of the people, the release said. (UNI)
