SHILLONG: The State Police is on its toes to ensure peace and security in the city, East Khasi Hill Superintendent of Police M Kharkrang said on Friday.

“I do not think there should be any fear psychosis and if people are scared then they are welcome to call us round the clock,” Kharkrang said, while allaying the fear psychosis that has gripped the minds of the residents of the city in view of the 12-hour State-wide bandh on Monday called by NGOs to press for implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Meghalaya.

Police will ensure normalcy in the State capital and other areas, the SP told a group of journalists on Friday.

“We will leave no stone unturned in maintaining law and order,” Kharkrang said, while pointing out that alertness on the part of the police personnel prevented any incident from occurring in the city.

He lauded the cooperation of the people during the frisking of vehicles that was undertaken on Thursday.

To ensure long lasting peace in the city, citizens’ committee meetings have also been started in different police stations of the city and the district, he informed.
