Police harass ambulance occupants

SHILLONG: Occupants of an ambulance run by an NGO were allegedly pulled out by police in Ri Bhoi during the bandh hours on Monday at around 4:30pm.
However,  Ri Bhoi SP CVS Reddy denied that the police pulled out any patient, and added that it  was due to the volatile situation that they had to check each and every vehicle including ambulances passing through the district.
A police official said that the policemen checked the ambulance in between Umiam and Umsning  to ensure that this was not misused to carry petrol.
Police, however did not recover any loose petrol from the ambulance.
According to police, it was only after much insistence that the occupants of the ambulance got down, leading to suspicion among the police. Later, all the occupants of the vehicle were allowed to go.
