TURA: The Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) has strongly denied passing any comment against Garo advocates as claimed by the Ampati unit of the GSU. The CEM Alphonse A Sangma has expressed shock over the allegations leveled against him by the GSU unit and clarified that such comments against advocates were never made by him.”I have not commented that all Garo advocates are inexperienced and proud. Such allegations are false and fabricated,” said CEM Alphonse A Sangma.

The GSU unit of Ampati has demanded that the stating counsel for the GHADC should be a local practicing lawyer from the Garo community on the grounds that a similar practice is in place in Khasi Hills and Jaintia Hills autonomous district councils. However, it is worth mentioning that even the standing council (advocate) for the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council includes a tribal and a non-tribal advocate. Senior Khasi advocate V K J Kynta and senior advocate Mr Nazari of the Assamese community represent the KHADC on all legal matters. Also, in the JHADC it is not a Jaintia but a Khasi advocate, H S Thankiew who happens to be the standing council.
