SHILLONG: The State government is yet to examine the magisterial probe report into the alleged witchcraft case of July 31 at Sohryngkham.
East Khasi Hills Additional Deputy Commissioner DM Wallang submitted the report to government recently.
“We are going to examine the report very soon and action will be initiated accordingly in this regard,” Home Minister Roshan Warjri told The Shillong Times here on Wednesday.
The magisterial probe report into the July 31 incident mentioned that no evidence could be provided to prove the allegation of witchcraft against Halorsing Kharumnuid of Maw-U-Tieng, Sohryngkham by any person of Maw-U-Tieng who had deposed before him nor by any other person or resident of Sohryngkham village.
Condemning such cases, the Home Minister said local Dorbar Shnong could play a vital role in checking such crimes which are outcome of mere rumours.
Referring to the recent cases at Sohryngkham and Smit, the Home Minister said the inhuman treatment and brutal murder of people for allegedly practising witchcraft was tantamount to violation of human rights.
