SHILLONG: A delegation of Khasi Hills United Democratic Alliance (KHUDA) led by KHADC CEM Pynshngaiñ N Syiem on Wednesday met Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma to apprise him on the bill which sought to delimit the Council constituencies.

The Bill was passed by the Council recently.

Talking to newsmen after meeting, Syiem said that they urged the Chief Minister to approve the KHADC Autonomous District (Constitution of District Councils) Rules, 2013 to enable the Council to delimitate the constituencies ahead of the Autonomous District Council elections scheduled for early part of next year.

“We have told the Chief Minister that as per sub-paragraph 7 of Paragraph 2 of the Sixth Schedule, the Council can make rules with the approval of Governor,” Syiem said.

The KHADC CEM also asserted that the Council had followed all the mandatory procedures which were laid down in the Sixth Schedule before tabling and passing the Bill. He said that the Chief Minister has assured that he would look into the matter within the next few days.
