SHILLONG: Cases of arson continued in the State on Thursday with miscreants hurling a petrol bomb inside the office of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department at Mawryngkneng at around 5 am as road blockade called by 10 pressure groups demanding introduction of ILP entered second night.

A computer, refrigerator and office furniture were damaged in the incident. Police also recovered an unexploded petrol bomb from the spot.

There were reports of burning of tyres in some parts of the city. A tourist taxi (ML 06-K 2039) was partially damaged when unidentified miscreants threw petrol bomb on it at Lumshyiap, Nongmynsong around 10pm.

Meanwhile, unidentified miscreants set a mini truck (AS-01CC-3382), belonging to Karnab Chowdhury on fir at Killing, Ri Bhoi. A Bolero Camper (AS-03E-7175) was also set on fire at Jorbil, Killing. Both the vehicles were partially damaged in the incidents. Miscreants also set a truck (AS-01L-8869) on fire at 20th Mile, Byrnihat.

Police, meanwhile, arrested three miscreants who were caught pelting stones at Pahamrioh and Shangbangla, Nongpoh. The arrested persons have been identified as Gobarson Suting (30), Thomson Lyngdoh (25) and Shanbor Lyngdoh (32).

Ri bhoi SP CVS Reddy informed that police also detained nine suspects for interrogation. According to Reddy, most of the miscreants were school dropouts.

“In desperation they are creating trouble in rural areas and when we rush to the spot, they shift to the highway,” the Ri Bhoi SP said adding that security along the national highway has been intensified.

“With the additional forces, we are confident of dealing with the situation,” he said.
