Two more rape cases come to fore

 SHILLONG: Rape of minors continue to show an increasing trend in the State with the recent case where a minor girl was raped by her own relative, Sujit Ghosh at Motphran here on August 18.

According to the police, the complaint was only filed recently after the girl gathered much courage to report this case to the police in which she informed that on August 18 at about 12:30 pm, the accused, Ghosh dragged her inside his vehicle at Motphran, assaulted her and later raped her.

After committing the crime, the accused had threatened the minor girl with dire consequences. This fear had kept the girl from coming forward, police sources said.

When asked on how the crime was committed inside a vehicle in such a busy market place, police sources said that the car was parked at a corner and quite far from public view.

Meanwhile, the accused was arrested by the police on Wednesday.

Recently, on September 1 at around 10:30 am, Simseng D Sangma (23) allegedly raped one minor girl (13), in her house at Kokaimari village (WGH). Police arrested the accused.

In another case, one minor girl (9) was raped by a minor boy of 16 years old in his residence at Urkaliar Nongmynsong on August 15.

Similarly, the report was only lodged recently following of which the police arrested the accused on Thursday.
