TURA: Most government offices in Garo Hills witnessed a healthy attendance at work on Saturday following last minute absence of student volunteers to enforce a statewide halt to official work.

Volunteers from the largest and most influential pressure group in the Garo Hills- Garo Students’ Union were conspicuous by their absence which helped government servants to attend to their duties.

GSU sources informed that a last minute communication glitch has been attributed to the absence of volunteers on the day of the state wide picketing of offices.

However, attendance in government offices picked up only by 12 noon as word went around that there were no volunteers to enforce the office picketing.

Prior to that many government workers stayed back from attending to work fearing reprisals from volunteers.

Attendance records were extremely high in Williamnagar town, Resubelpara, Baghmara, Ampati, Dadenggre civil sub-division and some of the main offices in Tura. The office of the district superintendent of police in Tura witnessed an almost cent percent attendance record, it was informed.
