SHILLONG: Shillong Chamber Choir enthralled a 6000-strong audience at the Mirpur Indoor Stadium in Dhaka on September 6 and followed it up with another brilliant performance at the Sylhet Auditorium in Sylhet on September 8.

The concerts were organized by the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre in Dhaka as part of the mega post-Eid celebrations.

During its performance at the grand Mirpur Indoor Stadium, in front of a capacity crowd comprising of dignitaries and music lovers of all age-groups, Shillong Chamber Choir mesmerized the audience with classical choir-style renditions (gospels), Bollywood numbers and Bangla compositions.

The audience swayed to the tune of compositions like “Lascia Chio Pianga…”, “Tu Asshiqui Hai..”, “Ngi Wan Kynduh..”, “Yeh Dosti..”, “Dil Hai Chota Sa..”, “Somebody To Love..”, “Senorita..”, etc. for about one hour and a half.

The Choir’s at Dhaka also lived up to its repute as the arguably top exponent of choir music from India. The Choir was versatile in its renditions considering the fact that they mixed choir style compositions with Bollywood numbers in their unique style of layering of music.

Prominent dignitaries of Bangladesh like Adviser to the Prime Minister for International Affairs, Dr. Gowher Rizvi, foreign diplomats like the US Ambassador and top cultural artists of Bangladesh participated in the ‘Grand Musical Concert’ in Dhaka.

High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh, Pankaj Saran and children of officials of the High Commission of India in Bangladesh presented a bouquet to the Shillong Chamber Choir at the end of the concert.

The concert was the by far the grandest organised by any government institution in Bangladesh in recent times in terms of the magnitude of participation of the audience and the quality of rendition of music.

This historic event was extensively covered by almost all prominent print and electronic media of Bangladesh.
